A solo game studio, Madeira

Worlds remade by hand.

BaltaSomnia builds handcrafted, systems-driven worlds. Our first game, Vexalia, is a voxel creature-collection RPG where fusing creatures visibly reshapes them forever, and the lineages you raise help rebuild civilisation itself.

Behind the studio

One person, in Madeira

BaltaSomnia is an independent game studio founded and run by Baltasar Sousa on the island of Madeira.

For more than a decade, Baltasar has been turning ideas into working software. In 2014, he left university to co-found Dobsware, a mobile app development company. In 2021, he co-founded FootAR, creating augmented and virtual reality experiences.

Games, however, were always the unfinished chapter.

Over the years, he explored different ideas, built prototypes and imagined worlds, but none of them made it beyond development. BaltaSomnia was created to change that. It is a space for experimentation, creative freedom and the kind of games he always wanted to make.

Its first title is Vexalia, a project rediscovered years after its original prototype was left behind. Finding it again became the starting point for something larger: a studio built to turn long-held ideas into finished worlds.

Persistence is part of the journey. In 2017, Baltasar weighed 130 kilograms at 1.70 metres tall. In 2026, he completed the 80-kilometre MIUT across the mountains of Madeira.

BaltaSomnia is built with that same mindset.

Keep moving. Keep creating. Finish what you started.
