The project is born

2026-06-22 to 2026-06-24

There is no screenshot for this one. For the first three days, Vexalia did not look like anything. It was enums, ScriptableObjects, and a vision document.

We started, as you have to, with the boring part that makes everything else possible. VexCore for what a creature permanently is, VexDNA for what it currently carries, elemental affinities, genetic capacity, trait definitions. The whole spine of the game, the part that decides whether fusion and breeding will feel like discovery instead of a slot machine, got written before a single creature had a shape.

The lore came together fast, in the same burst. The Vexodus, the cataclysm that ended the old civilisation. Lumoris, the legendary Vex who caused it, and who became Ruinoris afterward. The Silent Vigil, who believe any bond with a Vex risks another Vexodus and will destroy anything that says otherwise. The Ember Conclave, who are not the villains exactly, just desperate people rediscovering a shortcut that already burned the world once. And Anoris, the player character, who finds ruins near a sealed valley called The Cradle and gets expelled for it.

Then, in what the commit history calls “one continuous session,” we built the capture system with an Okami-style rune-drawing QTE, the VexForge fusion engine, the full elemental chemistry model (nine layers of priority, from status combos down to plain neutral damage), and a turn-based ATB combat loop with reactive Guard/Dodge/Surge windows borrowed in spirit from Expedition 33. By the third day we had nations, diplomacy, a tech tree, and a content generator that spat out 55 assets in one run: 15 elements, 33 technologies, 7 nations.

Our honest opinion, looking back at this stretch: it was the right way to start, and also the least interesting three days we will ever write about. Nothing was playable. Nobody could walk anywhere. If you had opened the project on 2026-06-24 you would have found a very well-organized pile of data and not a single voxel. We are including it anyway, because the elemental chemistry table we wrote in those three days (Water consumes Fire, Wood absorbs Water, Air amplifies Fire) is still, unchanged, the table the game uses today. Foundations are unglamorous. They are also the reason nothing since has had to be rebuilt from zero.

Next entry: the day Meshy got rejected, the main menu got its dead buttons fixed, and Vexalia became a thing you could actually walk around in.
